Looking out the bedroom window this morning at the lake, still thick with ice (good thing since it is also still thick with ice fishing huts) it occurred to me how much we take our homes for granted! I mean, there is a *lake* outside my bedroom window, which after 2 years of living here can still surprise me if I stop and think about it!
And not just any lake. The world's largest freshwater lake without an island.
OK, in practice it makes it a great lake for sailing and recreation, but a boring one to look at! None of those rocky tree filled islands one expects in this part of Ontario. But it is very shallow around the perimeter which is fabulous for children and deep in the middle which the fishers love. And it grows on you as you watch it change moods and seasons.

What is your town's claim to fame? The largest twine ball? Home of the Great One (wait, that is my home town LOL)?
Add you town's claim to comments, I'd love to hear them~ I have a little blog project in mind!

Well, my town has the flagship campus in the University of Maine system. :) But Bangor (nearby) has Stephen King and the big ol' Paul Bunyan statue!

What a gorgeous place to live! I live near St. Louis, which has so many--Mississippi River and Gateway Arch stand out. In my own little quiet suburb, our latest claims to fame are a ghastly murder at our city council meeting and a man who abducted little boys. Pretty horrible. We also have the Magic House (children's museum).

Ohh...lucky you with a water view!

We live by Smith Rock State Park (a famous rock climbing spot) which has one of the hardest rock climbs in the world.

Nashville's claim to fame is MUSIC! it brings visitors from around the world to our little city; and we have a goodly number of musicians, too.

LOL - Calloo - This year (07) St. Louis MO was the #1 least safe.

My hometown, Louisville KY, is known for the Kentucky Derby, Louisville Sluggers, and Muhammed Ali.

Those pictures are beautiful! I want to visit that lake!

I was going to say our claim to fame here in Palm Beach is all the over-loaded rich people and Donald Trump but after reading lauren-noelle's comment i remember someone telling me Palm Beach Island has zero crime. (Except trespassing).

My town (Mountain View, Calif.) is the headquarters of Google. Perhaps you've heard of them?

Port Colborne has the incredible shrinking mill, and is the start of the Welland Canal.

What a lovely place to live! The ice near us (Lake Winnebago and Green Bay in Wisconsin) is starting to get dangerous. It's not melting enough yet for spring, but enough that the shanties are coming home.
