BTRT Patterns (on Etsy)

Wednesday, 14 May 2008
I have begun stocking my new needle felted hair pretties (so Rowan calls them) at Etsy. They have been a great exercise for me because it seems everything I felt is BIG~ I went through a painting phase like that, when everything came out twice the size it should have! So making these tinies has been a great discipline for me.

The toughest part about them is making the second, matching piece to size since I tend to work fairly free and easy when felting. Each one is firmly felted (needle, not wet) with natural shetland or corridale roving and then covered and embellished in dyed merino.

The pony tail holders are hand stitched onto ouchless elastics (no metal) in the smaller (girl) size ~ but would work for most adults, too. The bobby pins are silver plated and slip in so smoothly, for adults of children. Each pair takes upwards of 90 minutes to make, so they truly are a labor of love, or at least felting passion!
