Welcome to June of Rising Sun Earthworks!
June is our featured artisan this weekend and she is giving away
a batch of 15 handmade lampwork Murano glass beads to a lucky winner!
Some of you may know June from her stellar work at RSE~ her stoneware pottery rocks.
Let me just say... have kids? You *need* Squishy Cups!
Easy to hold, easy to clean, easy to love ♥
My RSE sees use daily~ dog dishes, honey pot, mugs, squishy cups... no kidding!
And my addiction is tame compared to some!
So all this pottery talk... but beads for a giveaway? What gives?
I asked June...
Although I am a potter, I've always been interested in glass and glass blowing. It's like clay, but *clear*. When I saw a lampworking kit being offered for trade at Ravelry.com, I offered up some pottery and traded a few yarn bowls for the kit. It took a while to set up a little torching area but I did set one up in our enclosed porch (ventilation is very important when working with propane torches and their fumes). I haven't had too much time to practice but it seems to be coming to me fairly easily and for now I'm offering beads, buttons and magnets at introductory prices while I learn the ropes. Most of the glass I use is imported from Murano, Italy- the world capital of beautiful glass! While lampworking is not the same as glass blowing, it's still an exciting hobby for me.I asked June what is inspiring her these days...
I just completed a lengthy list of pottery customs so I'm feeling a bit less inspired than usual at the moment, but possibly the beautiful spring weather (finally) will inspire some great color combos in my glass creations, now that I have time to work more with the torch. I did get a shipment in of some amazingly colored glass so I hope to have some fun with that today! While I have never been interested in making jewelry, the beads are fun to make and I especially love seeing what others create with them (so please send me pictures or post them on my FB page). I plan on concentrating on buttons and magnets. I haven't really found my "style" yet, but it has been great fun to experiment.
As with all of our guests at BTRT I am always curious to know what makes for a great family day in their household...
A great family day would be a day where we didn't have to be nine places at once! I have twin teenagers so it's pretty hectic around here. A day where we could go on a fun outing together- maybe kayaking or fishing- and then have a jam session in the evening (they have a band called "Sibling Rivalry")- that would be a perfect day. I especially love when we set up the amps on the deck and the neighbors come by to hang out and listen.
